Fact-Checking Policy

1. Our Commitment to Truth

At NHA Wire, we recognize that trust is earned through accuracy. In an era of misinformation, our Fact-Checking Policy is the backbone of our operation. We are committed to non-partisanship, transparency of sources, and rigorous verification of every claim we publish.

Our journalists and editors are mandated to verify all information before it is released to the public. We do not assume; we verify.

2. Our Verification Standards

We adhere to a strict set of standards to ensure the information we present is factual and contextual.

  • Primary Sources First: We prioritize information from direct sources—official documents, raw video footage, scientific data, and on-the-record interviews. We avoid relying solely on “second-hand” reports from other media outlets without independently verifying the facts.

  • The “Two-Source” Rule: For anonymous or sensitive information, we require confirmation from at least two independent sources before publication.

  • Checkable Evidence: Whenever possible, we provide our readers with the evidence. This means hyperlinking to original transcripts, embedding pdfs of court documents, or providing raw data tables so readers can verify our findings themselves.

3. The Fact-Checking Process

Every story published on NHA Wire goes through a multi-layer review process:

  1. The Reporter: The initial burden of proof lies with the author. They are required to provide an annotated draft to editors, highlighting sources for every factual claim (names, dates, statistics, quotes).

  2. The Section Editor: An editor reviews the piece for narrative flow and bias, flagging any claims that seem unsubstantiated or lack context.

  3. The Copy/Fact Desk: For major investigative pieces or sensitive breaking news, a dedicated sub-editor or fact-checker reviews the specific data points against the provided evidence.

  4. Final Approval: Only when the senior editor is satisfied that the story is legally sound and factually accurate is it scheduled for publication.

4. Sourcing & Attribution

Transparency allows our readers to judge the validity of our news.

  • Named Sources: We always press for on-the-record attribution. We believe the public deserves to know who is speaking.

  • Anonymous Sources: We grant anonymity only when the source faces a justifiable threat (safety, livelihood) and the information is of significant public interest. We will clearly state why the source has been granted anonymity (e.g., “speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the press”).

5. Handling Misinformation

NHA Wire actively debunks viral misinformation. When we identify a viral claim that is false:

  • We clearly label it as “FALSE” or “MISLEADING”.

  • We explain the origin of the claim.

  • We present the contradictory evidence clearly and simply.

6. Fact-Checking Claims by Public Figures

We do not act as a mouthpiece for politicians or corporate leaders. When quoting public figures:

  • We check their statements against historical records and data.

  • If a statement is demonstrably false, we will note this immediately in the context of the article (e.g., “The Senator claimed X, though official data from the Department of Labor shows Y”).

7. Submit a Fact-Check Request

We encourage our community to hold us accountable. If you believe a specific fact in our reporting is incorrect, or if you want us to investigate a suspicious viral claim:
